In recent years, digital banking, digital payments and fintech innovations have grown at a rapid pace in the country. Government is continuously encouraging these sectors to ensure that the benefits of digital banking reach every nook and corner of the country in a consumer-friendly manner.
Money matters are complex, personal and people tend to need a human interaction in matters[Removed the and in between complex, personal.] related to banking. For the very same reason to mix human interaction with digital mode of transactions Govt. Of India and RBI came out with the novel concept of Digital Banking Units.Taking forward this agenda and to mark 75 years of our independence, Govt. Of India proposed to set up 75 Digital Banking Units (DBUs) in 75 districts of the country by scheduled Commercial Banks.
RBI vide their notification RBI/2022-23/19 DOR.AUT.REC.12/22.01.001/2022-23 Dated 07.04.2022 laid out the guidelines for establishment of Digital Baking Units.
In consultation with RBI, 7 districts were allotted by the IBA Working Group for establishment of DBUs to our bank.
Our bank is live with 7 DBUs at the below mentioned locations.
Bank is live with following services under kiosks in DBU in both Self Service & Assisted Modes:
providing internet banking facility for customer who doesn’t have PC/laptop at home or workplace for doing transactions
Union Bank’s Metaverse presence UNI-Verse access to customers for experiencing through Virtual Reality Device

Digital Banking Unit (DBU) is a specialized fixed point business unit / hub having certain minimum digital infrastructure for delivering digital banking products & services as well as servicing existing financial products & services digitally, in both self-service and assisted mode.
Following services are offered at DBU:
DBU is a specialized fixed point business unit / hub housing certain minimum digital infrastructure for delivering as well as servicing existing financial products & services digitally, in both self-service and assisted mode, to enable customers to have cost effective/ convenient access and enhanced digital experience in an efficient, paperless, secured and connected environment at any time, all year round.
In first phase, Savings account will be opened having scheme code Savings General In second phase Current account (single & proprietor) will be opened. Customer should have a valid PAN, Aadhaar linked with operative Mobile number and email id for opening Savings account
Such Accounts cannot be opened at DBUs. Since main objective of DBU is to increase Digital penetration of financial services through financial inclusion of unbanked/under banked individual Customers.
Physical Copy of document is not required to be submitted at DBU, whereas Customer has to hold & display the documents in originals for verification at the time of Video-KYC.
Customer can open Fixed Deposit through Internet banking kiosk only and no physical receipt will be given to the Customer.
No modification in nominee details is allowed from DBU at present, new nominee can be added in savings, current and fixed deposit accounts.
At present this service is not available at DBU.
Customer can apply for a Cheque book through various mode like ATM, CRM, Multi-Function Kiosk & Internet banking kiosk. Cheque book will be delivered to the registered address of the customer.
As applicable to general bank branches.
As DBU is envisioned as paperless banking unit, printing of account statement is not permitted. Customer can print their passbook using Passbook printing kiosk or Multifunctional kiosk. Alternately they can generate their account statement using Internet banking kiosk using which they can send to their email id.
Presently Locker services are not being provided at DBU
The services like updation of KYC, modification of nomination, issue of debit cards for other branches etc. which are yet to be fully digitized and are presently under physical application mode will be done at DBU by accepting physical application until the service is fully digitised.
